Academy forward Oli Thompson was named on the first-team bench for the first time in the club’s 2-1 National League win over Oldham Athletic in February 2023.
Thompson would go on to make his debut just under a month later, coming off the bench in the 10th minute against Farsley Celtic to help Gateshead progress to the 2023 Isuzu FA Trophy semi-final, where he would start in our penalty shoot-out win over Barnet.
He would then appear in the 2023 FA Trophy final at Wembley Stadium, being introduced as an 84th minute substitute against FC Halifax Town, having prevoiusly made his National League debut against Dagenham & Redbridge in March 2023, coming off the bench as an 87th minute substitute.
Thompson put pen to paper on his first professional contract with the club, signing for one year in June 2023, making three first team appearances as well as spending time out on loan at Ashington and Blyth Spartans.
