Founded in 1955, Gateshead College is a further education college with six campuses, offering both academic and vocational courses for school leavers and adults. Gateshead College are proud to be pioneers of ’employment edge’, which helps individuals gain hands-on experience and confidence to enter work whilst also helping organisations to build a skilled workforce for the future. In 2008 the main college site moved to the Baltic Quayside and the Academy of Sport, based close by at Gateshead International Stadium, was opened. The Academy is home to a number of specialist sports academies, including men’s and women’s football, rugby, netball, basketball, boxing and athletics.
Gateshead FC is currently teamed up with Gateshead College to develop an academy system that allows 16-19 year old boys of all abilities from across Tyneside to develop their skills and prepare them for work within the football industry. Whether they are aspiring to be part of the first team or seeking work off the pitch, Gateshead FC Academy can support young people interested in football to realise their dreams. The academy system provides a real insight into all aspects of running a football club whilst offering guidance for budding young players looking to break into the professional game, all whilst achieving nationally recognised qualifications.
