A rare stalemate at home to Bradford PA on Saturday afternoon meant that two vital points were dropped for Gateshead.
In fact, that was the only goalless draw other than their Emirates FA Cup match against Northern Premier League East Division side, Marske United, that they’ve played out since the beginning of August 2019.
However, a stoppage time equaliser from Spennymoor Town’s Jude Oyibo meant that title rivals Brackley Town also dropped points which has retained the three-point gap between the two sides.
This Saturday brings us the biggest game of the season for both Gateshead and Brackley Town as the two lock horns at St James Park in a match that could determine the winner of the league this season.
With Brackley trailing the Heed by three points and just nine games remaining, the hosts really can’t afford to lose this game with the same going for Gateshead.
Brackley Town do have a game in hand over the league leaders heading into this match which does play in their favour but should Gateshead come out on top on Saturday, a six point cushion would mean that they’re in with a strong chance of finishing top come May which would top off an incredible season for Mike Williamson’s side.
Brackley Town vs Gateshead Odds
Despite Brackley Town losing just once at home this season, it is the Heed who head into this game as favourites with many betting sites.
Brackley don’t concede many and Kevin Wilkin’s side have the best defensive record in the league both at home and on their travels. However, they’re up against a Gateshead team who have the best goalscoring record in the league both home and away and so this could be a very entertaining fixture.
Full Time Result*
- Brackley Town: 2/1
- Draw: 9/4
- Gateshead: 6/5
WhichBookie.co.uk Match Result Prediction: Brackley 0 – 1 Gateshead

The Over/Under Goals market is an interesting one for this fixture. The hosts will do their best to contain Gateshead’s attacking threat on Saturday and considering that they have kept clean sheets in 12 of their 16 league games played at St James’ Park this season, the visitors may find it tougher than usual to get on the scoresheet. However, Gateshead have been superb going forward this term and with 77 goals scored in 34 league games and averaging 2.18 goals per game on their travels, it’s hard not to see them finding the net at least once in the game.
Over / Under 2.5 Goals*
- Over 2.5 Goals: 19/20
- Under 2.5 Goals: 17/20
WhichBookie.co.uk Over/Under 2.5 Goals Prediction: Under 2.5 Goals
* Odds correct at time of publishing
Another bet that could have value is Gateshead to win from behind at odds of 9/1. This goes against our Under 2.5 Goals prediction but if Brackley do get on the scoresheet first early on in the game, Gateshead certainly have the ability going forward to get themselves back into the game and to go on and win it.
This is a huge game for both sides and Gateshead’s Online Betting Sponsor WhichBookie.co.uk wishes them the best of luck on Saturday and hopes that they can extend their lead at the top of the table to six points by picking up their 25th league win of the season.
