Hunter joined The Heed for the second time in his career in the summer of 2020.
The midfielder first arrived at the International Stadium ahead of the 2018/19 season after leaving Newcastle United and played a part in guiding Ben Clark’s side to a top-half finish before an enforced demotion.
Hunter spent the 2019/20 season with neighbours Blyth Spartans, making 31 appearances and scoring once across all competitions.
He made 14 appearances in Gateshead colours during the 2020/21 season and was one of a number to re-sign ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, going on to win the National League North after making 30 appearances and scoring one goal.
