Newton joined on a two-year deal, with an optional extension available at the club’s discretion, in August 2024.
The midfielder signed on a permanent basis after appearing as a trialist throughout pre-season, scoring in The Heed’s seven-goal win over Blyth Spartans and also recording an assist in the 2-0 home win over Carlisle United.
Newton went on to play a key role in Gateshead’s side across the 2024/25 season, making 34 National League appearances both on the left flank and as an attacking midfielder, scoring four goals and recording two assists as The Heed narrowly missed out on a play-off place.
Injuries limited his impact the following campaign, with Newton playing 15 games in all competitions during the 2025/26 season.
